Brahmacharya: Feeling Scattered? Discernment vs Discipline

Which do you find harder — discernment or discipline?
Discernment is knowing what to focus on.
Discipline is actually doing it.
Both are necessary. Both are hard!
And when life is full, and the to-do list is long and saying no feels uncomfortable — the fallback is usually whatever feels easiest in the moment. Or whatever disappoints the fewest people.
This week's theme is Brahmacharya — the right use of energy.
Sometimes it's not willpower. It's willingness to sift.
We've always said "mind like a sieve" like it's a bad thing.
What if it's not?
What if a sieve mind is exactly what we need — letting the unimportant things fall through, holding space only for what matters.
Figuring out what actually deserves your full attention, rather than giving everything a little bit of you and arriving at the end of the day feeling scattered and somehow still behind.
By the way, I sat down to write about this theme and couldn't decide which part to lead with. There were too many things I wanted to say. The irony wasn't lost on me. Of the two, discernment is the harder one for me, every time.
Come work it out on the mat with us.
Big love, Em x
