The Fantasy of Perfect Love
Agape and the Fantasy of Perfect Love

How often do we fall in love with the idea of something...?
"We don't love people so much as we love the idea of them—and it is the distance between the reality of them and our ideas that causes such grief." - Alain de Botton
You know how it goes: in the beginning, they leave their coffee cup by the sink and you think, Oh, how endearingly absent-minded. Three years later, that same coffee cup makes your eye twitch.
And... I'm not sure about you, but I feel like we don't just fall in love with ideas of other people. We fall in love with ideas of our future selves - there's that same longing for the me I wish I could be.
This is the Fantasy of Perfect. What if we could love what's real instead?
Maybe the question isn't how to become this future (super awesome) self, but what's keeping us from believing we already are.
Because guess what I think you are super awesome already.
Big love, Em x
