Is Your Heart Cocooned? Staying Open-Hearted

Painting of a golden cocoon-like heart on a blue background

You may have heard me talk about an armoured heart in class before, and how hard yet rewarding it is to stay open in every moment.

If we shut any part of ourselves out to avoid pain, we don't find safety — we find separation.

Well... I now have a version of this theme beyond class and on walls! I'm very excited to have my new artwork displayed at Palette.

It's called Big Love. It began as a personal reckoning with an armoured heart — the layers we build, often without noticing, to protect ourselves from hurt. Through butterfly imagery, I trace the process of shedding that armour: the perceived safety of staying cocooned, the courage it takes to open, and the full-force love that becomes possible on the other side.

This is my first exhibition. I'd love for you to be there.

Opening night:

Palette, 1 Freeman Loop, North Fremantle

Open to the public

Big love, Em x
