What's Your Anchor? Staying Grounded When Life Is Busy

Watercolour anchor in the sea with the word anchored

This time of year, our minds are especially busy. We're reflecting on the year that was while also planning for Christmas—presents to buy, Christmas food to organise, holidays to pack for. Our minds shoot off into the future or loop back into the past, even more than usual.

One way to bring ourselves back from this exhausting pattern is to repeat a mantra—an anchor for the present.

What is a mantra? The word comes from two Sanskrit syllables: man (to think) and tra (to guide, to lead)—a way to guide our thoughts away from mental chatter and into the present moment.

When we are in a situation we don't love (a busy shopping centre carpark, or relatives or colleagues who get on our nerves!) - a mantra ( as corny as this sounds ) " I am calm, I am calm, I am calm." can distract our brain from the situation and lull it into a sense of peace.

Make it yours - " I am curious, kind, patient, awesome..."

Big love, Em x
